TALKING ABOUT WHAT WE KNOW

  SPEECHLESS

January 6th, 2022
by Glenda S Wallace
Nothing to say.
Too many dead.
Too few believe.
Not sheep.
Not gods.
Confused.
Misled. Unsure.
Overtalked.

And, oh, so, tired.

So rest.
Take a breath.
Pause above the toxic spew.
Turn your head.
Close your eyes
...and your mouth.
Seek quiet. Seek peace.
Seek truth.

And don't say a word.

Someone else will bear witness.
Someone else will stand tall.
Someone else will stop the fear.
Someone else
will heed the call.

Do not break the glass.

Who needs shards of reality?
Too much anger already.
Too much to account.
Nothing here to see, they say.
The new brand is mute.

Right?

Onward...

DRAGONS

"I was climbing a mountain, asleep in the moonlight,
The ghost of my Grandpa came to me in a dream.
As the stars hung above us, he started singing this chorus.
He laughed loud as heaven and said this to me.

Take a few chances,
A few worthy romances.
Go swimming in the ocean on New Year’s day.
Don’t listen to critics.
Stand up and bear witness.
Go slay all the dragons that stand in your way."

Lyrics by Drew Holcomb and Zach Williams from the album Dragons* (2019). Song (below) performed by Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors.

...“Life is short. Let us hasten to say what we believe men need to have said, even though we shall be hated for saying it.”

— Gerret Smith*
Philanthropist & Social Reformer
March 6, 1797 – December 28, 1874
* Spoke out against slavery.

^ No dragons were harmed in the making of this song about creating "a good life." Harming others is not the answer. -GSW
